If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it’s not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That’s why it’s your path.-—Joseph Campbell

Listening to God

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.  Mother Teresa

I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.  John Lennon

That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God.   Albert Einstein

Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.  Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

A close friend shares a meaningful experience she believes was the voice of God. It is not my experience, but I can hear hers. How do you listen for God?

  1. Love these – thanks for sharing!

  2. Hmmm, that’s a big and interesting question. I have different ways of listening…silent meditation yes, walking alone in nature, singing a favourite song and then stopping and listening to the magic of the silence after that…or lighting a candle, closing my eyes, taking a few deep breaths, and then opening my eyes again and writing whatever comes.
